The Post Graduate Diploma/Professional Diploma in Ophthalmic Nutrition will help students to develop their skills to understand nutritional challenges seen in Ophthalmology. Diet is a key lifestyle factor that can have long-term effects on ocular health.

Cataract is the leading cause of blindness accounting for 66.2% cases of blindness and 80.7% of cases of severe visual impairment followed by refractive error and glaucoma. 80% of blindness cases in India are curable or preventable.

Ophthalmologist from all over the world are looking forward to focus more on the nutrition perspective, when it to eye health.

On completion of this programme student will be able to gain knowledge regarding:-

  • This programme opens new ways for health professionals including dietitians, doctors, Ophthalmologist, pharmacologists, hospital technicians, etc. to gain more knowledge regarding nutrition related to Ophthalmology. It gives a professional outlook to the people in these fields. They will be able to review patients in the hospital setups as well as clinics. It also beneficial for individuals from different fields to understand about eyeand its dietary changes.

    After completion of this course one can work as an dietitian specialist in Ophthalmology Department, Patient care manager (at Ophthalmology) at MNCs and Health centers, Research Dietitian at various organizations, Nutrition Nurse (specialized in Ophthalmic Nutrition) at Hospitals, health centers, nursing homes, Volunteers at Orphanages for Ophthalmology patients,Dietician in hospitals and Nutritionists in health clinics, health centers and MNCs. Post Graduates can work as a project assistant, project associate, chief nutritionist in NGO's and private organizations.

    It will also enable an individual to avail of jobs at government, community and private hospitals, community and private clinics, pharmaceutical and nutraceutical companies as an Ophthalmology nutritionist educator / Dietitian. One can work as an Ophthalmology nutrition counselor and assist Ophthalmologist in counselling their Eye Patients in any private or government clinic/hospital.

    Module 3: Understanding Nutrition (Basic diets for normal conditions / RDA)

    Module 4: Basics and Diseases of Eyes

    Module 5: Relationship between nutrients ( macro & micro) and Eye Health

    Module 6: Herbs and the eye health

    Module 7: Risk Factors and Protective Factors for Eyes

    Module 8: Nutrition and Dry eye ( Cataract, diabetic Retinopathy, Glaucoma)

    Module 9: Therapeutic diet planning with special emphasis on post-surgery diet chart

    Module 10: Practitioner Case Study for Ophthalmology

    Eligibility

    Any Graduate/ B.tech/ B.Sc. in Microbiology/ Life Sciences/ Botany/ Zoology/ Food Science/ Food Technology/ BE/ B.Pharma/ MBBS/ BDS/ BHMS/ BUMS/ BAMS or any other discipline. Diploma holders are eligible for our Professional Diploma, Industry Certificate, and Certificate Programmes.

    Programme Duration

    The duration to complete this programme is 1 year (Post Graduate Diploma), 6 months (Professional Diploma).

Effective online learning tools incorporated into the design of the webpage make the programme lectures, online live classes and study material easily accessible. This gives a huge window of self-regulated and self-paced performance to the participants.

    Programme Deliverables

    A comprehensive study material for all the modules in hard copies ensuring the needs of the audience. The accompanying training material is appropriately aligned with the current Industry’s expectations.

    • • Interactive or online sessions on all key areas of the programme giving all flexibility to the participants.
    • • Online classes for all the modules will be conducted on the weekends. Moreover, a doubt clearing session will also be scheduled before the examination.
    • • All the efforts are made by IGMPI faculty members to make the entire programme modules easily understandable.
    • • Assessment and evaluation for all the programme modules in order to enhance the levels of competencies and skills of the participants leading towards the objective of application in the job.
    • • At the end of each programme modules, the trainers shall obtain feedback from the participants using specially designed questionnaires.
    • • All learning and training delivery initiatives shall be conducted in English.

    Examination & Certification

    IGMPI follows a credit system based on all learning activities involved in studying for all PG Diploma, Professional Diploma Programmes. Each of your modules is equal to 4 credits. To successfully complete the programme, you will have to earn all the credits assigned to your programme.

    All the participants are obliged to timely submit completed assessment assignments (during the programme, usually after every module) and appear for an online exam at the end of the programme. After successful completion, the participants will be awarded Post Graduate Diploma/Professional Diploma in Ophthalmic Nutrition by Centre of Nutrition and Dietetics Studies (CNDS), IGMPI. For all the above-mentioned modules elaborate programme material, self-assessment assignments and project work details would be provided by the Institute from time to time.
